new dog, old tricks
Late to truly enter society, Black people have always had to fight to be heard or seen, as people and as artists. There are several Black photographers that have paved the way for me, my peers, and all black artists of our generation and generations to come. In this body of work, I reimagined some of their most notable images. Utilizing my friends, old and new, to put Black subjects at the forefront, whether they were originally in the photograph or not. Imprinting them into our modern times, in which representation is less scarce but not always positive. This project is an ode to some of my inspirations, including Gordon Parks, James Van Der Zee, Florentine Perrault Collins, Hugh Bell, and Anthony Barboza. To show my appreciation and admiration.
